Austin City Limits festival took place last weekend (October 12-14) in Austin, Texas. Awesome bands like  Red Hot Chili Peppers, Neil Young, The Black Keys, Florence and the Machine, Jack White and many more played at this festival. Good thing was that many of these performances were actually broadcasted live so even if you weren't there, you could watch some great artists perform.

Canadian indie rock band called Metric also played this festival. Band that recently released their fifth studio record entitled Synthetica is quite good life and their performance at ACL was no exception (it was broadcasted live as well) . This is shot of Emily Haines, singer of the band, from this festival:

You probably know that The Third Man Records is an independent record label founded by Jack White in 2001. Its major building is located in Nashville, Tennessee where you can find record store, performance venue (otherwise called The Blue Room) and, of course, headquarters of the label.

This label releases music on all kind of formats, but their main format is vinyl.

All Jack White's projects (The White Stripes, The Dead Weather, The Raconteurs, solo) obviously release their records under this label. However, artists like Black Lips, Karen Elson, The Black Belles, Alabama Shakes, Beck and others have also released their records via The Third Man Records. To see full catalog, visit their website.

This label also organizes various kind of events. Most importantly, they invite artists to perform at their performance venue. This month, they scheduled these artists to perform at their headquarters:

The Shins - October 6
The Kills - October 10
Olivia Wyatt - October 23
Seasick Steve - October 26

Here is a photo from last week's show when The Kills performed at The Blue Room.

Head Count is a non profit organization that promotes participation in democracy. It does it by working with musicians of different genres of music. Of course, they are currently running programs regarding upcoming presidential elections in the US.

They go to many festivals and concerts and encourage people to register to vote so they can participate in upcoming elections. According to their website, they "translate the power of music into real action". So far, Head Count has registered 200,000 voters since 2004. They attend 1,000 festivals and concerts a year.

The Kills is one of many musicians that work with this organization. They recently posted a picture of Alison Mosshart (singer of the band) with a sign "Register To Vote Here". By this, of course, they want to encourage people to register.

American punk rock band Alkaline Trio is a band that plays mainly darker tracks. They are also influenced by satanism. Singer of the band Mike Skiba is a member of Anton LaVey's Church of Satan and believes that it's not all about fire, brimstone and threats of eternal damnation.

Here is a part of an his interview for MTV in 2005:

"Really, the faith's simply about theatrics, how to comport yourself when you're out and about (for instance, one of the church's Ten Commandment-like mandates forbids followers from bothering others in open territory, but "if someone bothers you, ask him to stop — if he does not stop, destroy him") and maintaining a cool, sinister image. And, doggonit, it's "really fun."

Anyway, I like their music and I like how they're not afraid to say what they think and what they believe in and most importantly - they are not afraid to express these things in their music.

They have recorded so far 8 studio albums. The last one called Damnesia was little different though. It contained only older tracks, but recorded acoustically. It sounds actually pretty cool. Exciting news is that new album is coming pretty soon because yesterday they posted this picture via their Facebook page with a note "Today we begin making our next record with Bill Stevenson, a long time hero and friend. We couldn't be more excited."

I know that it is unbelievable, but it is exactly 21 years and 1 day since Nirvana's legendary album Nevermind was released. This album probably changed the whole music.

It came out on September 24, 1991 via DGS Records. It was produced by current Garbage's drummer Butch Vig (he also produced records like The Smashing Pumpkins' Gish, Sonic Youth's Dirty and Experimental Jet Set, Trash and No Star, Jimmy Eat World's Chase This Light and, of course, Foo Fighters' Wasting Light). It was recorded during May and June in Sound City Studios (Dave Grohl is making a movie about this studio).

I think that this album don't feature a song that is bad. All tracks are awesome or at least good and I know that this album has changed a lot of people.

Cover of the album has also interesting story. It was Kurt Cobain's idea to make such cover after he watched water births with Dave Grohl. First, they wanted to use real water births images, but they were too vivid for the record company. Therefore, they settled to shoot babies in a pool. Then they chose image of an infant named Spencer Elden. However, there was again a problem with a penis, which was too big. The only compromise that Kur Cobain would agree on was to put a sticker over it with a sign "If you're offended by this, you must be a closet pedophile."

What do you think of the album?

Today's picture was posted by NOFX singer and bassist Fat Mike via his Twitter. The photo was taken in downtown of Indianapolis. He also posted funny note:

I hope you all know that "local Mexican worker" is El Hefe - guitarist of NOFX...

Bad Religion updated their cover picture on their Facebook page couple of days ago. The photo features all band members (including Brett Gurewitz) except guitarist Greg Hetson in the studio.

They've been recording new, yet-untitled, album since July when I informed you about it. Well, it's been over two months since they started recording it so I assume we can expect sixteenth studio album from this legendary punk band later this year or in early 2013.

The band also posted this exact photo on their official website with a note saying:

"The band just sent out an e-mail with a photo of the band (except for Greg Hetson) in the studio to all Bad Religion fans that registered to the mailing list on badreligion.com.

Again produced by Brett and Joe Barresi, the photo appears to be taken at Joe's House of Compression. In contrary to the process that went into making The Dissent of Man, this time no demos were recorded in smaller studios (such as Sunset Lodge in January 2010).

Also, this is the first time since The Process Of Belief (2001) that a Bad Religion album is recorded analog!"

I'm so excited about this record and I am really looking forward to the sound of this record since it's been recorded analog. To follow all the news about recording process, go here.

This picture was posted by Lou Reed via his Facebook with caption "Sectioned" yesterday (September 11). It is a reaction on lawsuit over iconic cover of Velvet Underground's debut album Velvet Underground & Nico, which came out in 1967.

Lou Reed and John Cale initiated that their band should own the copyright to this famous picture instead of Andy Warhol Foundation. However, judge recently threw this claim out.

So the argument about trademarks continues because there is a lot of money in it - the album is celebrating its 45th anniversary and for this occasion six-disc album is set to be released as well as iPhone and iPad accessories.

I think this whole situation is just ridiculous and I think that both Andy Warhol Foundation and Velvet Underground should own the copyright for this picture.

Here is the original cover of the album:

To finish this little series of pictures from Reading and Leeds, I chose The Black Keys.

This duo put out their seventh studio album last year. Record entitled El Camino finally made these guys famous all over the world thanks to positive reviews. Some even say that it was the best record of 2011.
