Jack White released new song via helium balloon

Well, Jack White surprised us once again. Even though yesterday was April Fool's Day, for Jack White it was day of release of his brand new song called "Freedom At 21". However, if you think he released it by regular way, you're wrong.

He and workers from Third Man Records decided to do something really unusual. They released 1,000 copies of new track "Freedom At 21" via helium balloon.

Third Man Records site explains:

"Envisioned as an experiment exploring non-traditional forms of record distribution and a way to get records in the hands of people who don’t visit record shops, the label was sure to use biodegradable latex balloons and all-natural twine in the process.

Accompanying the balloons were custom postcards with instructions for the finders to submit photos, discovery location and the date on which the record was found, all of which will be viewable atThirdManRecords.com/balloon.

Statistics for similar balloon launches show a recovery rate of approximately 10% so it’s quite possible that less than 100 of the 1000 records launched will ever be discovered."

Well, this is really unusual way of releasing new music, but I do not really think it is efficient way and I don't think they'll do it anytime soon again. Anyways, we are surely all excited about Jack White's debut LP Blunderbuss, which will be out in three weeks - on April 21.

Deftones to record new album

During recent interview, frontman Chino Moreno said that Deftones not only finished writing new material for their new record, but he also confirmed that they will start recording the record on July 9.

He said:

"I know everybody says this, but I believe this is the best record we’ve made. I’m very enthusiastic, because it sounds futuristic in comparison to our last one (2010′s Diamond Eyes), so it feels like a step forward. The songs are very different from each other, not heavier or slower, but more dynamic, going towards several directions; it’s heavy, but beautiful."

There is no release date yet, but we can expect the album to be out at the end of 2012, or at the beginning of 2013.

Song of the day: The Subways: "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang"

This is the most recent music video for their latest single. It is actually third single from their latest record Money & Celebrity, which came out last year.

Picture of the day: April 2, 2012

Awesome John Butler during his recent performance at Sunset Pictures, Broome, Australia. I really admire this guy because of his great guitar skills.

Hear new song from MGMT

MGMT are currently on tour in South America. Last Friday (March 30), they debuted new track entitled "Alien Days" during their gig at Colombia's Festival Estereo Picnic.

It is first song ever heard from their forthcoming record, which will be entitled simply MGMT. The band has been working on this album with producer Dave Fridmann at his Tarbox Road Studios in Cassadaga, Florida.

You can hear the new track here. Of course, the quality is not the best, but it is pretty decent.

Smashing Pumpkins' Oceania finally to be released

Smashing Pumpkins have finally revealed release date for their anticipated record Oceania. It will be released on July 19. The band had been silent for almost year after they announced they will release new record. This announcement was done in April last year.

The band signed contract with EMI label. Mike Harris, EMI’s GM said:

"We are thrilled to extend the long-term partnership between The Smashing Pumpkins and EMI with the release of Oceania. Everybody at EMI Label Services is looking forward to working closely with Billy and the band to help them deliver their vision and their music to fans around the world."

I think that this record will decide whether Smashing Pumpkins can still make a good music or not because lately it didn't seem so. I actually think this album will finally bury Corgan and his band.

Watch interview with ex-Joy Division's Peter Hook

Former bass player of Joy Division Peter Hook did an interview with legendary record store Amoeba. They posted it on their Web site and you can watch it here.

He talks about Joy Division's records Unknown Pleasures and Closer and also about his recent tour during which he played the whole legendary debut album Unknown Pleasures (the album features tracks like "She's Lost Control" and "Disorder") + other big hits from Joy Division such as "Love Will Tear Us Apart", "Transmission" or "Dead Souls". Enjoy the interview, it is pretty cool.
